Spring training

The schedule for spring training has been announced. Our spring training facility is Space Coast stadium. You can get a great photo tour here.

Also, following up with the minor league scouting, Baseball America had a chat session that is very enlightening if you want a better sense of what we've got waiting in the wings.

It is interesting to see how Josh Karp has fallen off many of these prospect lists. Hopefully he will find the humidity of New Orleans better able to keep the ball in the park for him.

And why doesn't Roy Corcoran gets nary a mention? If he every gets his walks under control, he looks like a good middle-reliever prospect that doesn't give up home runs.

And can I make one final observation -- how cool is it to have both the A and AA affiliates within easy drives of DC (Prince William and Harrisburg)?

I don't like the idea of trading Vidro and starting Harris. This is where the Guzman and Castilla signings really hurt. They are going to be better players (at least in 2005) than Harris and Izturis would have been, but the 7 mill in contracts could force us to deal Vidro or Nick Johnson, so it could be a huge net loss by the end of 2006. Our limited budget already made Bowden at least float the idea of non-tendering Armas and Ohka, who are decent arms, if of questionable health. I don't want to see him work under pressure.

Well, it's good to have an option if Vidro's knee remains an issue, but I agree that we shouldn't want to dump him anytime soon. Beyond the fact that he's good, he's a bit of a hero in my mind for wanting to stay with the franchise its last year in Washington, and we owe him a few years of our support as well :-)
